HDL and LDL
HDL (Good Cholesterol) : As per the doctor, it is good in case it is 40 or above. Lal path lab reports also recommends it 40 and above. Apollo and Levine are ok with 35 too.
LDL (Bad cholesterol) : Should be below 100.
Doctor in 2015 took my lipid profile (no fasting on that day and I had couple of full eggs on that day), my LDL turned out to be higher (around 125) and HDL was close to 36.
Doctor had recommended Atorva 10 mg on the basis of these and asked me to repeat lipid profile after 6 months.
I have got done the Lipid profile test done in Jan, June (after 8 hr to 10hr fast)
* LDL is under control (< 100)
* HDL is near 36 or so....
On 15th June, I stopped Atorva 10mg and redone lipid profile test on 16th July (after a month)
* Not much changes
* HDL is still near 36.
* LDL is well under control.
Dr advised me to stop Atorva. Come back again with test results after 1 month with following.
Changes: There are few ways to boost HDL.
* Oil: Olive oil is recommended but Rice Bran Oil isn't bad too for HDL/LDL.
* Breakfast (or Salad) in Olive oil.
* Rice bran oil for others.
* Cod Liver Oil (Capsules) : Fish Oil
** As I don't eat fish, Dr Recommended Cod Liver Oil. (2 caps in night).
** You will have to eat fish everyday otherwise. Not possible for me.
* Exercise :
** Yoga won't help in this.
** Half an hour of SWEAT is required. So, do anything but generate SWEAT. Aerobics, Gym etc.
* Flax-seed (powdered) :
** mix 1 tsp in curd and eat it daily.
* Garlic Pods
** 2 every day in morning.
** Though there are conflicting reports on its benefits and % in beating LDL.
* Kidney Beans
** Once a week at least.
* Fruit
** Apple can help.
